Welcome To WA Athletics
Track and field athletics is a collection of sports events that involve running, throwing, jumping and walking. Organised athletics are traced back to the Ancient Olympic Games from 776 BC, and most modern events are conducted by the member clubs of the Intern ational Association of Athletics Federations. The athletics meeting forms the backbone of the modern Summer Olympics, and other leading international meetings include the IAAF World Championships.
Put simply, athletics is about running faster, jumping higher or for a longer distance, or throwing much further than someone else.
It's perhaps the oldest sport of all, with running, jumping and throwing events taking place thousands and thousands of years ago.
At Athletics Western Australia we continue to promote and inject a modern spirit into athletics and are proud to be a part of such a wide and varied collection of events.
We are proud to be part of the new frontier with the birth of a 9 lane mondo surface track built in 2009.
The new track will be host to the 2010 Australian National Championships/XIX Commonwealth Games Trials from April 16-18. It has been just over 21 years that the last National Championships were held in Perth (1988 - Perry Lakes Stadium)
Athletics in Western Australia produces amazing talent every year and with the new facilities, it can only keep improving.
