Street Pole Vault thrills in Bunbury

Author: waadmin/Wednesday, 6 March 2019/Categories: News, Featured

The inaugural Bunbury Street Pole Vault meet delivered a thrilling competition and electric atmosphere to the heart of Bunbury's CBD last weekend, as spectators lined Victoria Street to catch Australia's best vaulters in action.

The Pole Vault Street Meet provided an engaging competition format for athletes Lauren Hyde-Cooling, Nina Kennedy, Sasha Zhoya, Angus Armstrong, Declan Carruthers and Stephen Clough, where they were challenged to push their individual personal bests according to their respective run-ups (6 steps, 12 steps and so on).

The crowd were treated to the mid-competition interviews by hosts Dylan Panizza and Olympian Genevieve Gregson, whilst the Redbull DJ and a local Beatboxer Jeddles entertained amongst vaults.

Nina took an early lead with a new personal best of 3.95m and despite Declan's gallant attempts at 5.63m, she managed to hold off the other competitors to produce the best performance of the day.

Athletics WA are grateful to Go Geo and the City of Bunbury for delivering such a unique event and we hope to be back next year for another Street Meet.
