Go For 2 & 5 Indigenous Program

Athletics WA is the Member Association of Athletics Australia with a mission to lead an integrated, growing sport of athletics in Western Australia. Healthway have partnered with Athletics WA for many years in the delivery and promotion of a range of athletic activities in regional WA, promoting the Go for 2&5 health message. Athletics is an activity that provides children with a foundation base to participate in a number of sport and consequently provides the opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle to a broad and diverse population throughout Western Australia. 

Eating plenty of fruit and vegies not only contributes to good health, but also protects against a number of diseases and helps maintain a healthy weight.  Most Australians eat only half the amount of fruit and vegies recommended for good health. Adults need to eat at least 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegies each day.  The amount children need depends on their age.  It’s easy to find ways to get some extra fruit and vegies in your day – visit to find out about the benefits of fruit and vegies, nifty ways to get more fruit and vegies into your day, plus some super simple tasty recipes.


Athletics WA’s Go for 2&5 Indigenous Program is also a part of Athletics Australia’s Athletics for the Outback programme and continues to flourish under the leadership of Lindsay Bunn, with support from WA track athletes Mangar Chuot and Richard Akera. They have achieved excellent results in remote parts of Western Australia that now focuses on sustainability with specific coach development to provide on-going development and support. 


Working with indigenous communities in the Kimberley, Gascoyne and Pilbara regions, Athletics WA endeavours to create a sustainable and thriving athletics network that promotes healthy lifestyle choices, coaching opportunities and the increased participation in athletics.
